Explore Christchurch by Bike: Little River Rail Trail

Indulge yourself in some local history with a ride down the Little River Rail Trail. Following a railway that ran from 1875 to 1967, this trail will bring you past the Canterbury plains to the Banks Peninsula and then to the largest lagoon in New Zealand. The one-way ride will take you 55 kilometers, and be sure to book a shuttle for your way back!

Follow State Highway 76 to Springs Road, which will take you down to Prebbleton. Veer left onto Birchs Road to reach Lincoln. Take Edward Street followed by a right turn onto Ellesmere Road to eventually reach the start of the official rail trail. From here on out, you will follow this trial until you reach Little River. The one-way journey stretches 55 kilometres. Rent for overnight or longer if necessary.
